Faith Speaks

FAITH SPEAKS

BY LANNY SWAIM

A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. - Jesus in Luke 6:45

In this scripture, Jesus makes it clear that what is inside you will come out of your mouth.  In other words, you will say what you believe.Words are powerful things.  God created the universe out of chaos by speaking words.  He brought Jesus into the world by prophesying it through the mouths of his prophets for centuries prior to Jesus being conceived in the womb of a young virgin.  And he will bring about the completion of the apostolic church and the return of Jesus to the earth because of words spoken by his prophets in the past and prophetic words continuing to come forth today and in the days ahead.

It is extremely important that we speak positive, faith filled words that line up with God’s Word.  Our success, our lives and our future depend on it.  Most people’s talk is very negative.  Many Christians are continually saying things that should not be coming out of the mouths of believers.  Some of it is out of habit or out of ignorance but much of it is because of what is in their hearts.

When I first realized the power in words and started paying attention to the words that were coming out of my mouth, it became difficult to talk at all.  I was in a habit of saying such negative things.  It wasn’t that I intended to curse anyone or anything but the cliches that were constantly coming out of my mouth were extremely negative.  (Scared me to death, tickled me to death, that just kills me, that makes me sick, etc. etc.)

However, just changing our conversation won’t get the job done.  When I found that my conversation needed to change, I found it very hard to do.  First we have to change inside.  The treasure of our heart has to change.  Our focus has to change.  As we die to self and grow into the things of God, our conversation will change as well.  Yes, we may still have to look at some of the things we are saying and make a quality decision to change the way we talk.  But first and foremost, we have to change inside.  As we feed on God’s Word and grow intimate with him, faith will grow inside us, changing our thinking and our conversation from negative to positive.  Our words will line up with God’s words.  In reality, we will come into agreement with God.  He has a purpose for us individually and a purpose for all of creation.  When we come into agreement with him, speaking faith filled words that line up with his purposes and plans; not only will we become a prophetic voice that will change the circumstances of our lives, we will bring the Kingdom of God on earth as it is in heaven.
