Johannesburg – Six retired South African National Defence Force (SANDF)
generals sent by President Thabo Mbeki to probe the cause and source of
violence that has engulfed Zimbabwe since the March 29 elections are said to
have finished their investigations today.
The generals were deployed earlier this month after gruesome pictures of
victims of the state-sponsored violence started appearing in newspapers and
television screens around the world.
South African Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister, Aziz Pahad, said in a media
briefing today that the Southern African Development Community (SADC) would
do everything possible to bring about conditions that make it possible to
have free and fair presidential run-off election on june 27.
Meanwhile, Mbeki has already made up his mind who is responsible for the
violence. Displaying his characteristic bias towards Mugabe, Mbeki said
recently that he cannot believe Zanu(pf) could be responsible for the
violence.
