Six year-old Nyasha Mashoko of Zengeza Waterworls in Harare South constituency was burnt to ashes on Friday night at around 8 pm when a group of Zanu PF youths and armed men descended on a Harare City Council water treatment compound on the outskirts of Harare.Nyasha’s father, Brain Mamhove, was the MDC council candidate for Ward 1 in the March 29 elections.
Six vehicles one of which was identified as belonging to the MP elect for Harare South, Hubert Nyanhongo, descended on the workers’ compound on Friday while Mamhowe’s family that included him, his wife, Pamela Pasvanai, Rangarirayi and two children Leo Mashoko and Nyasha were eating their dinner outside their house.
On seeing the group, Mamhowe escaped, as he knew that it was after his life leaving his family behind. The thugs then forced the family inside the house and locked the main door before they broke the windows and poured petrol and set the house on fire.Rangarirayi managed to escape with Leo but Nyasha was burnt to ashes inside the house while Pasvani was rescued later and ferried to Harare Hospital after sustaining 88 % burns.She however, died the following day from the injuries sustained.Leo and Rangirirayi are battling for their lives in hospital.
Meanwhile, Chipiro, the MDC Mhondoro Ngezi district chairperson was also burnt to death in the disrict on Friday by Zanu PF supporters in a similar manner in which vehicles belonging to the MP elect for the area, Bright Matongo were used in the brutal attack.Chipiro had both her wrists and ankles slashed off by the rascals who then proceeded placed in her house before they set in fire. She was as a result burnt to ashes while her grandchildren were watching the gruesome acts.
These three callous murders brings to 65 the number of MDC members who have been killed since the party and its president, Morgan Tsvangirai defeated Zanu PF and Robert Mugabe.Last week three MDC youths were also burnt to ashes after the MDC offices at Jerera Growth Point in Zaka, Masvingo were petrol bombed by a group of armed Zanu PF supporters in army and police uniforms.
