MDC demands vs Mugabe’s

JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News)---SOUTH African President Thabo Mbeki flew into Zimbabwe's capital Harare on Monday morning, but the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) leader Morgan Tsvangirai was unlikely to sign a proposed power-sharing deal with President Robert Mugabe unless his demands were met.

According to MDC spokesperson, Nelson Chamisa, who spoke to CAJ News over telephone on Monday, the country’s main opposition was demanding that Tsvangirai becomes the sole leader to chair the cabinet meetings.

Among other demands put forward by the MDC were that Tsvangirai be allowed to hire and fire ministers and be accorded the opportunity to control key government apparatus.
