Misihairabwi, who is also a member of the newly created Joint
Monitoring and Implementation Committee, explains why she believes it's
a positive development. However Kagoro believes it's a marriage that
is doomed.' He says Tsvangirai will effectively become Mugabe's PR
manager. On Callback Khums has no hope for the future as he says like
most Zimbabweans he has had to resort to illegal activities in order to
survive; Taku says even though there have been ample rains this year
they still cannot plant because only ZANU PF supporters are being given
seeds and fertiliser, and Bukakura reports that the new bank notes that
have been issued are just worthless pieces of paper because they don't
pay for anything.' On Cathy Buckle's Letter from Zimbabwe she describes
how life has become a living hell for people without foreign currency,
and the only thing you can do with Zimbabwe dollars, if you can get
them out of the bank, is pay your telephone, water, and electricity
bills.' Saturday we have HEALTHbeat, which takes a holistic view at
issues of health and well-being. This week we focus on people in the
Diaspora who are reaching out to help their fellow Zimbabweans.
Chamunorwa Nhau in Durban has started a feeding scheme at his local
church, and Simbarashe Chirimubwe has started an organisation that
gives cholera assistance and education to Zimbabweans living in
Botswana and to those who are cross-border traders.
Join us for The Heart of the Matter where well-known journalist and
broadcaster Tanonoka Whande shares his unique thoughts and insights on
current events. Tanonoka focuses on the recent SADC summit in South
Africa as he criticises the regional group and says they should be
brought before the International Court of Justice for human rights
violations against the Zimbabwean people,' and their name should rather
be Murder Incorporated.' He says that despite Mugabe losing the March
29th election and refusing to adhere to SADC's own guidelines, they
have seen fit to continue to shield and protect him. With the decision
they pushed through in Pretoria they have effectively stolen
democracy' from the people by forcing Zimbabweans to accept a leader
they rejected in March. On Callback Shumba says everybody in Zimbabwe
has been forced to live as a criminal because of the policies of ZANU
PF; Chidakwa reports that there are now thousands crossing the border
illegally at Beitbridge to go to South Africa, and that women are being
raped and deserted along the way. Nyamayaro says the only way forward
is through fresh UN supervised elections, nothing else is acceptable.
This week on Through the Valley, Richard investigates the worldwide
fast taking place to show solidarity with Zimbabwe. He talks to human
rights activist Selwyn Chetty of Save Zimbabwe Now, who has been
encouraging church groups in South Africa to get involved. Also from
South Africa, Catholic Bishops have called on SADC to stop supporting
and giving credibility to the illegitimate Mugabe regime. Tichaona
presents the programme Rebuilding Zimbabwe where the guest is the
party’s chief representative in the UK, Hebson Makuvise, who says now
that the MDC has decided to join a unity government, the real work to
rebuild the country should start immediately after Morgan Tsvangirai is
sworn in as Prime Minister in two weeks time. Makuvise gives a cautious
assessment of the mammoth task that lies ahead. He says there will be
no quick fix to the country’s problems, but remains optimistic that
patience and commitment will see the country eventually get back on its
feet. Democracy 101 is the programme that gives a beginners guide to
democracy and the democratic process. Willy and Dominic are again
joined by Tichaona as they debate the recent SADC summit on Zimbabwe
which they say was just a high-sounding nothing.' They describe SADC
as a collection of dictators' with nothing but their own interests at
heart and certainly no concern for the people of Zimbabwe, with one
glaring example being their repeated failure to address the serious
issue of state orchestrated abductions and violence.Â
Every weekday we bring you a Newsreel bulletin at both the opening and
the closing of our weekday broadcasts with all the latest news
concerning Zimbabwe, and on Saturday we have a News Roundup of the
