The Vice President Mujuru, wife of retired army general Solomon, visited Masvingo last Friday to tour some irrigation schemes in Mwenezi. She also attended afield day in Chivi the following day, where she addressed scores of villagers in what analysts interpreted as campaigning for the ZANU PF presidency, as fierce jockeying for the top post continues.

ZANUPF Masvingo leadership is allegedly aligned to Emmerson Munangagwa, who is a Karanga from the Midlands region. Mujuru is Zezuru, from the northern part of the country.

Sources said the Munangagwa-led grouping in Masvingo was irked by the fact that they were not informed of the visit. Some only heard of Mujuru's visit after she had already left the province.

The provincial leadership, including ZANU PF chairperson Lovemore Matuke, and his committee, were not aware of the visit. The likes of governor Maluleke and Senator Josiah Hungwe, who back Munangagwa, were only toldof the function hours before, to their dismay, said a source.

The source said that Maluleke and Hungwe attended under protest'
