Parliamentary Standing Rules and Orders Committee calls for applications for the Zimbabwe Media Commission.

zimbabwe_parliamentThe Parliamentary Committee on Standing Rules and Orders has called on Zimbabweans to apply to be considered for the appointment to serve as Commissioners on the independent commissions among them the Zimbabwe Media Commission, as provided for in Zimbabwes Constitution.


In an advert placed in the state daily, the Herald on 5 June 2009, the Committee on Standing Rules and Orders outlined that it drew its mandate, in terms of sections 100(b), 100 (k), 100 (n) and 100(r) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe to nominate candidates for these appointments by His Excellency, the President.

The Zimbabwe Media Commission will be responsible for licensing journalists and media houses to practice in Zimbabwe as well as enforcing ethics in the media. It shall also preside over what is referred to in the Access to Information of Privacy Act as journalistic privilege breach of which is subject to criminal procedure.

The Committee also called on applications from the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, the Zimbabwe Anti-corruption Commission, and the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission.
