Moyo said the party would begin with a serious restructuring of all its branches before the election of a new provincial executive, which will replace the one that he currently leads.
We began the exercise by establishing new wards and branches in Pretoria two weeks ago, said Moyo.
We are preparing for a provincial congress, which will be held here in South Africa later this year, and we cannot do that with a dysfunctional district in any of our provinces, said the MDC SA leader. The party will be incomplete without Pretoria, which has several Zimbabweans, including those that live in informal settlements, whom we have now targeted. Our aim is to have at least five wards in Pretoria, which will then meet at a district assembly to elect the district leadership for the party.
The MDC SA provincial executive brought 10 000 membership cards which will be used to mobilize support for the party, which currently has about 70 000 registered members in the countrys nine provinces, according to Moyo.
The cards, which are already on sale, cost R20 each and are to be accompanied by a R5 monthly subscription for each registered member.
We believe that the 70 000 figure is just a drop in the ocean considering the about 4 million Zimbabweans that are here and we would like to broaden that membership, added Moyo. We also want to fight for the diaspora vote because Zimbabwe cannot wish away 4 million of its people. If Zimbabweans living outside their countrys borders cannot be allowed to vote in their bases, then we would like them to at least be registered there, and we will provide transport for them to go and vote at home on election day.
