Masvingo students appear in court for trial

student_soliderityEight Masvingo students today appeared before a Masvingo Magistrate court facing charges of public violence. These charges arose when the eight participated in a demonstration in the streets of Masvingo in April against the decision by authorities that students who had not paid tuition fees would be barred from writing examinations.

The eight are Tafadzwa Kutya, Sarudzai Zishiri, Hamunyari Gasela, Vongai Maibva, Cynthia Zuze, Nyasha Sigauke, Hardlife Ganyure and Brighton Ramusi. The trial kicked off today with members of the police and Great Zimbabwe security guards testifying in court. The eight were part of a group of 25 who appeared in court on Tuesday and were screened to eight. Trial is set to continue on the 16th of June.
