Ban on police phone usage

zim_policeHARARE - Deputy Police commissioner of General Human Resources, Barbra Mandizha, has threatened to dismiss police instructors caught with cell phones during police training sessions, and warned them to desist from abusing recruits.
She was speaking at an award-giving ceremony at Morris depot last week, following the airing of a recent SW Radio Africa video

The video, filmed by police instructors during the training session, has been widely condemned by human rights organizations worldwide. Seven police instructors based at Morris depot, who were involved in the abuse of recruits, have been arrested. Last year a female police recruit died at Morris depot under circumstances linked to beating by instructors.

As the police deputy commissioner in-charge of Human resources I will approve the dismissal of any police instructor found on the other side of that order. Police training involves rigorous sessions. Some corrupt instructors take advantage of this and record video clips using cell phones and publish them on the internet for a fee. This behavior is tantamount to selling the country and derails the organizations efforts by tarnishing its image, said Mandizha.

Police instructors are the shepherds of the recruits and any inhuman behavior upon the recruits by instructors should be totally condemned. I am glad that the depot has taken stern measures on instructors who abuse recruits and as police we will make sure that anyone involved in ill-treating recruits is dealt with accordingly, she added.

Recently SW radio showed a video clip which exposed inhuman treatment of police recruits at Morris depot by their instructors. The video clip which was filmed by some police instructors during the training session has been widely condemned by human rights organizations world wide. I will approve the dismissal of police instructors found on the other side of that order, said Mandizha.
