This was forcing the present security guards to work overtime. Some security guards are working overtime just because we dont have enough guards. This is because the council is financially handicapped to pay guards good salaries, Nyoni said. This comes at a time when there is an increase in vandalism of government and council property in the city.

BCC struggles as workers quit
BULAWAYO -Bulawayo City Council (BCC) has been hit by a serious shortage of security personnel who are quitting their jobs as a result of poor salaries. Speaking to The Zimbabwean last week, the councils town clerk, Middleton Nyoni, said that although 150 municipal security guards successfully completed their training programme in the past recent months, there was still a huge short fall of security personnel.
