Provincial junior soccer league secretary Andrew Tlou said the five teams that participated in the games were Gwanda Government School and ZRP Gwanda pooled in Group A and Gwanda Giants from Gwanda High School, Eyakho Boys Academy and Imbizo Football Club making up Group B.
“In group A, Gwanda Government School and ZRP drew one all with goals coming from Marvel Chikuni for Gwanda Government and Blessing Gumede for ZRP Gwanda.
According to Tlou, Group B saw Eyakho Boys Academy thrash Gwanda Giants 3-0 with the enterprising Mthulisi Sibanda grabbing a brace and Mandla Moyo slotting in one goal.
Eyakho Boys Academy then booked a place in the semi-finals with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Imbizo in the final Group B match. The sure-footed Moyo eluded the opposition defence to fired in the first goal before Mthulisi found the target to dash any hopes of Imbizo coming back into the match.
In the semi finals lady luck smiled on ZRP as they grabbed a 6-5 penalty lottery victory to silence Gwanda Gaints after a goalless 90 minutes while Eyakho Boys Academy posted a narrow 1-0 win over Gwanda Government School through a Gideon Moyo strike to storm into the finals.
Tlou said the finals will be held on July 26 at Pelandaba Stadium. According to Tlou, the tournament is meant to encourage all junior football teams in the province to come and register for the league.
“So far we have only those five teams in the junior league confirmed and we are calling for all other teams to come and join the league at its early inception. Officially our junior league games will start on the 18th or 19th of July and these games are meant to encourage teams in the region to join the league. We are expecting at least over 10 teams to join the league this time,” said Tlou.
