I might be forced to put my life at risk by going back to Zimbabwe so that they are buried. I have nothing to lose; I have lost my family and my home.
Mugutis two-year-old son, Democracy, and his sister, died two months ago under mysterious circumstances in May. The post-mortems revealed that Democracys skull had been split and Mugutis sister had died of food poisoning. Muguti strongly suspects that the deaths were politically motivated.
Muguti, 33, contested in the March 29 parliamentary elections in the Gokwe-Nembudziya Constituency, winning 1,071 votes. He came out third after the incumbent, Flora Bhuka, the Zanu (PF) candidate, and Kizito Mbiriza from MDC-M.
After losing the election, he campaigned for Morgan Tsvangirai ahead of the presidential run-off election, incurring the wrath of Zanu (PF) supporters.
He fled to South Africa in July 2008, three months after his 21-year-old wife was allegedly abducted from the couples homestead by six armed men. She has not been seen since.
Muguti, who is now living in exile in Johannesburg, said that he was abducted and tortured on five occasions. He was left for dead in the bush and was left semi-disabled after the brutal attacks.
