NUST lecturers on go-slow over pay

university_lacturers_strikeBULAWAYO - Lecturers at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) have embarked on a go-slow, demanding more allowances. The lecturers have asked for monthly allowances of more than US$500, on top of the US$100 they get from the government.

At present, NUST authorities pay their lecturers allowances ranging between US$150 and US$300, depending on the grade.

The allowances are paid out of the high student tuition fees.

“The university has failed to honour its promises. We were promised an increase in allowances in May and June but it never materialized,” said a NUST lecturer.

Another lecturer added: “This is why last week we embarked on a go-slow to

push the authorities to honour their promises. There have been few lectures since last week because there are no lecturers.”
