About 14 councillors, including the deputy mayor Amen Mpofu from MDC-T, attended a one day workshop in the city. The meeting was organized by the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Bulawayo Chapter to discuss the role of community radio stations and the role media in small communities.

The councillors resolved to draft a petition which they would forward to the Speaker of Parliament, Lovemore Moyo.

The petition read as follows:

We demand the immediate setting up of ZMC and BAZ to enable the registration of community radio stations in Bulawayo. Like in other African countries, especially South Africa, community radio stations can play important role in developing our city. Community radio stations will help minority languages like Tonga, Nambiya and Kalanga to be aired.

The councillors went on to say that the inclusive government should also fulfil its promise of opening up the media space at large.
