NGO to build houses for teachers

house_builtBULAWAYO - World Vision Zimbabwe has pledged to construct teachers' houses at St Peters Primary School in a bid to curb the staff exodus. The few remaining teachers at the Bulawayo City Council-owned school are forced to walk 10km to St Peters, as there is no regular transport servicing the area.

“Every term new teachers arrive at the school and inevitably they leave. This high staff turnover has a negative effect on the pupils,” said Isaiah Magagula, the city council director of Housing.

To solve the problem, Magagula said the non-governmental organisation, World Vision, would construct two houses for teachers at the school.

“World Vision required transport to carry the building material to the site. This has since been arranged and already the cement and asbestos sheets have been carried to the school,” said Magagula. “It is estimated that the project may be completed in two months,” said the council.
