Four athletes to represent Zim

athleticsBULAWAYO - The National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (NAAZ) has selected four athletes to represent the country at the Africa Youth Championships. The games will be hosted by Mauritius from July 28 to August 4. The athletes left the country on Monday via South Africa.

NAAZ president, Joseph Mungwari, said they had picked a youthful side for development purposes.

“This is a development squad. We want to identify athletes for the World Junior Championships and the Olympic Games in Singapore. We want to expose the team to a high level competition. Competition is much stiffer at the African Championships than at the regional championships,” said Mungwari.

The team will be led by Bulawayo’s Sukoluhle Mlalazi and team manager Mathew Masiro.

Also expected to carry the hopes of the nation are upcoming athletes Faith Goremusandu, Abdul Simbili Walkilil and Lionel Mungwari.
