Greyheads help minister draw up education plan

david_coltart_educationHARARE - The National Education Advisory Board, appointed by Education Minister David Coltart in March, has now re-constituted itself into committees to tackle the next stage of its work. Coltarts team of greyheads, set up to advise him on policy and reconstruction of education, will now draw up a medium-term and five-year plan f


Initially, the group was structured into five task forces, including ones covering fees and levies and teachers salaries and conditions.
The board carried out a broad assessment of primary and secondary education at the beginning of April, just two weeks after being appointed, and is due to report back at the end of the month, following consultations.
The new committees are composed as follows:
Teachers conditions of service Takavafira Zhou (PTUZ president), Tendai Chikowore (ZIMTA president), Goodwill Shana (Christian Alliance).
Policy and capacity Isaiah Sibanda (lecturer NUST), Mike Ndubiwa (consultant), Sharayi Chakanyuka (dean, Faculty of Education, ZOU), Charles Maunze (president, Zim Heads of Secondary Education).
Infrastructure, facilities and resources Fay Chung (former minister of education)Fr Joe Arimoso (head of Jesuit education), Sister Tariro Chimanyiwa (head, Dominican Education and headmistress, Emerald Hill School for the Deaf)
Parents and community Stan Hadebe (board member ZIMSEC and National Monuments),Neil Todd (CEO, Association of Trust Schools and former headmaster, Falcon College), Lovemore Mufamba (president, Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe)
Curriculum Mary Ndlovu (former lecturer, Hillside TTC), Trudy Stevenson (former teacher, Arundel School).
