In recent weeks there has been an escalation of reports of war veterans and Zanu (PF) activists in Mberengwa and Gokwe districts in Midlands forcing villagers to attend pungwe meetings to campaign for a parliamentary driven constitutional process.
The war combatants and Zanu (PF) loyalists have been forcing the villagers to campaign for the adoption the of the 2007 Kariba Draft to be used as the reference point in the ongoing constitution making process.
Midlands MDC provincial chairperson Cephas Zumuti said: Communities in Gokwe and Mberengwa are living in fear and political violence in the areas has taken a new twist.The MDC Provincial chairperson said a number of MDC activists had been arrested in Gokwe recently on trumped up charges by Zanu (PF) militias working hand in hand with the local police.
