The residents, most of whom are unemployed, said the high cost of transport was prohibiting them from ferrying their beloved ones to the nearest mortuary at Chinhoyi Provincial hospital. Residents said they had formed a development committee to spearhead the resuscitation of the mortuary through fund raising programmes. They also appealed to the relevant authorities to assist.

Residents fail to transport their dead
CHINHOYI - Residents of Alaska, a dormitory settlement 10km from Chinhoyi, are forced to keep corpses for three days due to the absence of a mortuary service in their area.
Alaska has developed into a ghost town following the closure of Alaska mine due to the 10-year economic meltdown and implementation of ruinous economic policies by the former Zanu (PF) government.
