BULAWAYO - The MDC Ms Secretary General, Welshman Ncube, says the expelled Members of Parliament sold the party for money. Addressing a gathering in Bemba area, more than 60 km from Tsholotsho Business Centre, Ncube, who is also the Minster of Industry, Commerce and International Trade, said out of the three political parties in Parliament his party had tIn the inclusive government we have the most important votes, as our votes are needed by both Zanu (PF) and MDC-T to gain a majority in the house. Without our vote, these two parties would find it difficult to win any vote in the House of Assembly. The March 2008 election failed to produce a party with a majority to form a government on its own, hence the GNU, he explained. As a result of this, Ncube said, some politicians who had money started splashing around Unites State dollars to buy their votes. That is when some of our MPs ran away from the party – going for the money. As a party, we then said if you dont want to stand with the people, leave our party and our votes. This is the story of the expelled MPs. They are no longer MPs and party members. We are only waiting for by-elections to replace them, he said.
The party expelled three MPs and a member of the partys national executive for misconduct – Norman Mpofu (Bulilima East) Abednico Bhebhe (Nkayi South), Lupane East legislator Njabuliso Mguni and Alex Goosen. Ncube also castigated the revival of Zapu, saying it was only meant to divide the people of Matabeleland. Lets not get carried away by a whirlwind, to be people who just follow any leader who has come to us, he said. People from the region should be united to better their lives, as they are lagging behind in terms of development. Jews are very few in the world, but wherever they are they are united to better their lives. They are always united for their development. We should also learn from that and work for the development of the region as one, he said.
