Gwekwerere brews a storm at Dynamos

evans_gwekwerereHARARE- Former South African-based striker, Evans Gwekwerere, has brewed a storm at Harare giants Dynamos.

The team’s impatient fans have been calling for the dismissal of head coach Elvis Chiweshe- for refusing to field the former Dynamos star player in the wake of the team’s costly defeats.

The former Zimbabwe international striker, who is set to join V-League club Hai Phong FC in Vietnam after signing a two year-contract with the club in May, has been cleared by his South African club Jomo Cosmos to play for Dynamos until the end of the season. This was after his intended move to Vietnam stalled over some yet to be disclosed hitches.

Gwekwerere signed a short contract with Dynamos two weeks ago.

But, Gwekwerere, a darling of the Dynamos fans is still to be given a run by coach Chiweshe despite his experience and goal scoring.

Sources within Dynamos told The Zimbabwean that Gwekwerere and Dynamos

assistant coach Tonderai Ndiraya did not see eye to eye since Gwekwerere played for Dynamos.

Gwekwerere was expected to play for Dynamos for the first time in a midweek game against Monomotapa, but he was not given a run and the team subsequently lost 1-2 to the reigning champions.

On Sunday, it got worse when Dynamos lost 0-2 to Lengthens for their second successive defeat.

With the defeat, Dynamos relinquished their stranglehold on the top of the log standings to Gunners who beat Kiglon 4-1 a day earlier at Gwanzura.

The Dynamos fans angered by the defeat to Lengthens threw missiles on the pitch and sang obscenities against the coach for not fielding Gwekwerere in the team. Chiweshe had to be escorted off the pitch by police who fought running battles with rowdy fans for more than 30 minutes as they called for the dismissal of the coach.

“He has the players. Gwekwerere is there but its strange that he is not playing. The coach should go. How can you leave out a player like Gwekwerere from the team?’ said Taurai Mhanda a Dynamos fan.
