Zim captain Mwanjali to miss quarter-final clash against Botswana

cosafa_cupHARARE-WARRIORS' captain Method Mwanjali will miss Zimbabwe's quarter-final tie against the Zebras of Botswana at Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo Monday.

Zimbabwe’s national soccer team manager Sharrif Mussaconfirmed that Mwanjali will be out of the tie against the Zebras because of suspension. The Warriors captain picked up two yellow cards which rules him out for Zimbabwe’s next match against the Zebras of Botswana.

“Mwanjali has picked up two yellow cards and will not be part of the team that will play against Botswana. It is a great set back because he is a very influential player for the team. He has very good leadership qualities but all the same we will have a capable replacement,” said Mussa.

Mwanjali who turns out for Harare giants CAPS United was appointed captain of the Warriors in the absence of injured Highlanders defender Gilbert Banda and he has led his troops with pride and distinction. Leading them to a quarter final place after pitting Lesotho to the sole ticket.

Mwanjali scored the third goal for Zimbabwe in their 3-0 win over Mauritius and also played a pivotal role in the 2-2 draw against Lesotho.

Bantu Rovers goalkeeper Washington Arubi will deputise Mwanjali in his absence.
