Warriors conquer the region

Head coach Sunday Chidzambwa and his troops certainly removed all doubt that they were just worth the tag, Warriors, by conquering the region and taking all the loot that came with Cosafa. Zimbabwe won their fourth Cosafa Championship title to be the only country to have lifted the trophy four times after Zambia and South Africa won the tournament thrice. The regional tournament was used by a number of countries that included South Africa and one of the finalists, Zambia, to give their local players a chance to prove themselves for selection in their senior teams.

Zambian head coach, Herve Reinard, was quoted in their press saying those who impress in the Cosafa tournament will earn a place in the Chipolopolo team. But for the Warriors, they had earned it already leaving critics expecting more from a team they had labelled Zimbabwes first side. It was equally a select side from the countrys top premiership teams that competed with developmental sides from the region and for that, Mhofu will always know he has done Zimbabwe proud.

Chidzambwa reckons that Zimbabwe will need a consistent national team to continue with international matches and not only wait for the next Cosafa tournament and a group of new faces in the Warriors team. If I will still be available, I believe in using this team as a base to maintaining a consistent team. I would then start bringing in a bit of the foreign based players so that we look into the future, said Chidzambwa.
