The opposite, which is to give players a lot of time to play on the field, has proved a simple recipe to propel different talents on any sport fields. Former Dynamos players Norman Maroto, Tafadzwa Dube and Ramson Zhuwawo will reminisce about their days with the Glamour Boys. Lack of game time at DeMbare saw the Gunners reliable trio struggling for consistency in the little time they got to showcase their talent.
Game time is one important thing any sportsperson needs to improve his game. It is through playing many games that one gets to improve, said goalkeeper Tafadzwa Dube. Dube became the 2009 Champions first choice goalkeeper this year after being starved of time in the field with DeMbare where he played second fiddle to talented Willard Manyatera. The Gunners goalkeeper was proud to be part of the players behind his teams maiden championship title as well as winning the recognition of the Sports Writers Association onto the best 11 players of the season.
Dube told ***The Zimbabwean his move paid off as his achievements were difficult to come by sitting on Dynamos substitute bench. I wasnt getting much of the game time at Dynamos, so it was difficult for me to improve. I may have been better than Manyatera but obviously the coaches saw some weaknesses in me and they cant be blamed, he said.
But at Gunners you find that I played in almost all the games, so it gave me time to improve. The coach (Moses Chunga) also came into play when he identified my weaknesses and I continued to work on them. Maroto believes he has always been the star he is during his time with the Glamour Boys.
Statistically the goals I scored at Gunners and those at Dynamos may be the same when we consider the number of games I played at both teams. Yes its all about game time but I never played to prove anything each time I played against Dynamos or any team, said Maroto. Winning the championship with Gunners was something we deserved as a team after working so hard for it. For every tournament or game we played so hard to win and we will continue doing so next year in the Champions League.
In the past editions of the African Safari, Zimbabwean clubs showcased an impressive performance with Dynamos and Monomotapa reaching the Super eight stage of the showcase, the Glamour Boys even proceeding further to the semi-finals. Dube has great expectations of his teams maiden performance at the continental showcase next year. Obviously we hope for the better, we hope to do well like what the other teams did or even more. But we realize it is not something that comes on a silver platter, we need to work very hard for it, said an optimistic Dube.
