They have no idea how to extricate the party from mess they created. There is no democracy even within the party itself. It cannot therefore renew itself democratically.
Sensing certain defeat at the next election, with Robert Mugabe as their candidate once again, the delegates know full well that the party needs leadership renewal, or it will die. In their desperation, they turned to a most unlikely saviour.
The standing ovation given by delegates to former spindoctor Jonathan Moyo speaks volumes. Mugabe himself did not get a standing ovation at the congress! Even after his unanimous endorsement.
The party is now grasping at straws. They have no idea of how to move forward, other than to welcome back into the fold the vilified, discredited, sacked Moyo.
Faced with internecine warfare, lack of vision, bankrupt policies and rampant corruption, the delegates came up with two strategies:
a. To put a spanner into the works of the GNU, thus closing the door completely on the toehold in government they had been forced to give the MDC; and
b. to place their faith in a Goebbels type saviour, in the person of Moyo, who has obviously promised to use his forked tongue magic to redeem them.
For details of his plan, one need look no further than our lead story from last week, which gave full details.
For the record, we publish here just a few of the many things Moyo has had to say about the current leadership of Zanu (PF) in the past:
* I had also come to understand and appreciate that it is far better to be with the people and to work for them than to be hostage to the whims and caprices of the politics of patronage.
* Let’s face it, in politics the only political party that can survive without an ideology is the one in power which abuses its incumbency by making state institutions and state resources extensions of its party for reasons of patronage. That is what is keeping Zanu (PF) together, because Zanu (PF) is now a dead duck on the shelf, only breathing from the evils of state security and the abuse of state funds.
* Yet the brutal truth in our country is that state security agents are running Zanu (PF) such that Zanu (PF) is CIO and CIO is Zanu (PF). Naturally, in such a scenario, it stands to reason that the CIO will defend and prop up Zanu (PF) by infiltrating opposition ranks so as to cause confusion within them in the hope that the resultant confusion will weaken if not kill the opposition. J Moyo.
It is a sign of the extent of their desperation, that they have turned to Moyo to save them. Theyd better watch their backs.

HARARE It is patently evident from goings-on at its recent congress, that Zanu (PF) is doomed. The current crop of geriatric leaders is not fit for purpose yet they will not budge. They will do whatever is necessary to maintain their strangle-hold on power.
