Detectives had by Tuesday arrested four of the seven-man gang that robbed the Chegutu branch of Stanbic Bank and made off with US$266 000, R150 000 and P34 690.
The arrested included a Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe employee who did not participate in the daring robbery but is believed to have provided the robbers with transport from Chegutu to Harare.
Three South African masterminds are still at large although sources close to the investigations said the net was slowly closing in on the robbers who are believed to be from Gauteng province.
A team of Zimbabwean detectives is closely working with the South African Police Service and Interpol to track down the suspects. It is a matter of time before we get them, said a source close to the investigations.
Investigations were also continuing in Zimbabwe despite the arrest of four local accomplices, with the police suspecting that more people could have been involved in the daring robbery.
No comment could be obtained from police spokesman Wayne Bvudzijena or his deputy Oliver Mandipaka on the state of the investigations.
