Zim Cricket launch B league

BULAWAYO - Zimbabwe Cricket has launched a second league in order to accommodate the growing pool of players taking up the sport at the professional level.

The move is expected to improve cricket development in the country and provide a wide choice for selectors and also improve competition for places in the senior national team. Godfrey Koti, the ZC Media and Communications Manager for the Southern Region, confirmed the development. The move is good for the country. Clubs have in the past proved that they do have the layers to support such a development, he said.

Franchises have welcomed the idea of running such a league citing more development to their young and up-and-coming players. Head coach of Bulawayo based franchise team Tuskers, Robin Brown, have applauded the move saying it will create competition for the players in the A league. This will create the necessary competition in the main-team, making selection merit based, said Brown.
