Youth Chairperson, Giyani Dube, appealed to well wishers assist in cash or in kind to assist in the rehabilitation of the child. He said we ask the individuals or organisations anywhere in the world to assist in contributing anything to assist this child who is now recovering. We want to register him for school. We want money for his medication and his upkeep amongst other necessities. In future we also plan to build his home, which was burnt by Zanu (PF). Nqobani is a casualty of the Zanu terror campaign.

He was sleeping at a home in Nkayi with his parents and brother when Zanu (PF) supporters locked the door and set the house alight. The inferno ate his parents and brother who died later in the hospital. The neighbours managed to remove the burning child using a rack after hearing screaming. Giyani says they want to make sure Nqobani leads a normal life. They want him to stay in South Africa and continue with his education. The MDC took Nqobani from Zimbabwe to South Africa where he is still receiving treatment. Francis Spencers Zimbabwe Torture Victims Project has assisted financially. We would like to also ask human rights groups to also assist in the investigation of this issue. We wont rest until we see the perpetrators brought to book. It is painful to see an innocent child in pain like this, said Giyani.

Nqobani was discharged from Barangwanath Hospital last month and now accommodated at Dr Paul Verryns house where he is being taken care of by a relative, Busi Ndlovu. Besides counselling, the child also needs skin surgery. The Youth Chairperson says Nqobanis parents were staunch MDC supporters.
