A representative from Sanyati Rural District Council said it had no money to maintain the road. As a result, unemployed youth in the area are now carrying out volunteer patchworks and demanding a fee from passing motorists.
Motorists have asked the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) to provide funding from tollgate fees to be channelled towards the rehabilitation of dilapidated rural roads like the Sanyati one. Other motorists propose that in Sanyati, cotton companies like COTTCO, Grafax and Cargill should pool resources and provide funds for the maintenance of Sanyati road.
