The Zimbabwean attacking sensation welcomed the nomination but added that performing well against Moroka Swallows when the league resumes on February 3 was top of his priorities.

It is always nice when you get nominated for an award but for me it is all about the team. I am focusing on returning back to the team when we play Moroka Swallows, Musona told Chiefs official website last week. The award carries a R5 000 prize money. His nomination automatically qualifies him to the Jet Club Rookie of the Year Award, which is worth R50 000.

Fellow Zimbabwean Esrom Nyandoro, who stars for Mamelodi Sundowns, has previously won the award.

The Jet Club Rookie competition recognises talented players who are completing their first season in the Premier Soccer League or have played five or less games in a previous season.

Meanwhile, Musona is happy to be back in the team after a knee injury he sustained in an ABSA Premiership match against Supersport United in December. I am back now, the 19-year-old said. It is always frustrating when you cannot play because of an injury but one thing that put a smile on my face was that my teammates were doing very well. We won four out of six games in December. We are now left with six games and we will see what will happen. The fans expect us to win every game and we have to continue giving our best, he said.
