PRETORIA - The South African Police Service have arrested a Zimbabwean man, Steven Chikono who is facing charges of severely assaulting his stay-in girlfriend, who has a three months old baby and maliciously damaging the shack they stayed in.His girlfriend, who pleaded not to be mentioned in the press, told The Zimbabwean that complications developed in their relationship as Chikono was now allegedly having an affair with another Zimbabwean woman, only identified as Mai Nyasha.
She said after a heated confrontation, Chikono relentlessly assaulted her as she was making a meal for the baby and left with his friends. When he came back in the evening, he was still furious and broke into the shack they shared as she had fled for safety.
Neighbours called the police and Chikono was subsequently arrested after a vain attempt to scare off the heavily armed cops with a kitchen knife. He is expected to appear in the Mamelodi Magistrates court soon.
