We have little information about this worrying possibility, but are making some tentative inquiries and will report back when we have more info, said a spokesperson from The Zambezi Society.
In the 1980s, The Zambezi Society worked with Mobil Oil to help mitigate environmental impacts when the company was undertaking an oil exploration exercise in the Zambezi Valley. Mobil did not move to an exploitation phase as no commercially viable oil deposits were located.
However, the location and future exploitation of both oil and natural gas cannot be ruled out in the Zambezi Valley area because of changing economic and other factors.
The Society will advocate strongly for the sound environmental management of any exploration activities that may take place, the spokesperson said.
