MDC official arrested

MOUNT DARWIN - A senior MDC official has been arrested for addressing an unsanctioned constitutional meeting where he allegedly undermined the office of the president.

Mashonaland Central Province chairman, Godfrey Chimombe, was on Sunday arrested by Mount Darwin police and has been sent to Bindura police law and order section where he was charged with undermining the office of the President.

It is alleged that Chimombe, at an unauthorized constitutional rally at Pfura stadium on Saturday, deviated from his speech and spoke out against the police and CIO. This development comes barely after a week MDC appealed to the Joint-Monitoring Implementation Committee (JOMIC) over the unjustified arrests of its senior members. The party has not yet received any formal response from JOMIC.
