Villagers reject Zanu hardliners turned MDC

mdc_bannerMUTOKO - Villagers in the area have said they will not accept leaders who defected to the MDC from Zanu (PF), and rose through the partys ranks in a suspicious way.

At an MDC rally at Rukau Business Centre at the weekend, villagers wept on recalling how the MDC Mashonaland East provincial chairperson, Patrick Chabvamupero, forced them to drink human urine when he was a member of Zanu (PF) in 2002.

Chabvamupero was a notorious Zanu (PF) hardliner, who spearheaded terror against MDC supporters here. We will not accept him as MDC provincial chairperson. He is not one of us and rigged his way into provincial party structures. Hired people from Harare voted him into office, instead of supporters at district and provincial level, said angry villagers.

They accused him of suspending MDC members from party structures and replacing them with known Zanu (PF) supporters.

Chabvamupero is creating parallel structures in the constituency and surrounding himself with sympathisers ahead of next provincial congress. New leadership is expected to be elected at the congress, they said.

Chabvamupero joined MDC from Zanu (PF) in 2002. He left Zanu (PF) after he won the parliamentary primary elections against Olivia Muchena, but was sidelined.

We are angered by Chabvamuperos bid to overthrow a people-backed parliamentary candidate, Samakande. He wants to impose himself on the people for the parliamentary seat. Why has he hijacked the celebrations programme. He has denied Marondera Urban member of parliament, Ian Kay, and Samakande, opportunity to address the rally. He has an agenda, said another party supporter.

Angry youths were restrained by senior party officials from effecting instant justice on Chabvamupero. Guests included legislators, Paul Madzore (Glen View), Pinial Denga (Mbare) and Ian Kay (Marondera central).
