Day of reckoning will come

An exhibition showing pictures of raped mothers, youths with broken limbs and dead bodies, some with visible marks left by the whips and molten plastic as the victims were tortured before their death, should be enough to shame the gang of torturers masquerading as the Zimbabwe Republic Police into hiding.

Some would even say it should be enough to melt the hardened hearts of the mobsters and compel them to repent and seek forgiveness from God and their victims. But not Police Commissioner General Augustine Chihuri and his men! As soon as news broke out that pictures of their gory handiwork were about to go on show at an exhibition in Harare for Zimbabweans and the whole world to see they reacted the only way they know how.

The police seized the pictures and arrested Okay Machisa, the director of the Zimbabwe Human Rights Association (ZimRights) that organised the exhibition at Delta Gallery in Harare. Never have the guilty shown so much fear of truth! When the courts ordered the police to free Machisa, return the pictures they had seized and that they stop interfering with the photo exhibition, they complied. But only for a moment, waiting until darkness last Wednesday when they invaded the exhibition venue wanting to seize the photos once more and to arrest organisers of the show.

Finally, Machisa and ZimRights, unsure of what the police might do next, abandoned the photo exhibition and it was mission accomplished for the police. Once more, they had succeeded in keeping truth away from the public eye. But just for how long do Chihuri and other merchants of death and torture in the army and Central Intelligence Organisation think they can keep the truth concealed.

History is littered with examples of men and women more powerful than Chihuri and his colleagues who have fought so hard to suppress the truth but eventually lost the war and so shall it be with Messrs Chihuri, Perence Shiri, Philip Sibanda, Happyton Bonyongwe and Constantine Chiwenga. As sure as day follows night, the truth will eventually come out and the security commanders can rest assured that on that day they will be called to account for every drop of innocent blood they have shed in defence of Mugabe and Zanu (PF). And let them not say they were never warned!
