Lengthens stare early CAF Cup exit

HARARE - Zimbabwean Caf Confederation Cup representatives Lengthens are staring an early exit from the African as they need to score four goals without reply at the Uhuru Stadium in Tanzania on Sunday to qualify for the group stage of the African club competition.

Lengthens are expected to leave for Tanzania tomorrow (Wednesday). The Happy People as the Zimbabwean side is affectionately known by their passionate fans were taught a football lesson two weeks ago when they were thrashed 3-0 by Simba Sports club of Tanzania in the first leg in Harare. That defeat left the Zimbabwean side with a mountain to climb in Tanzania where they should score four goals without conceding any goals themselves to ensure their progress to the next round.

A 3-0 win by Lengthens will still not be enough as the match will be decided by penalties. And the Lengthens technical department headed by Lengthens Mandla Masuku will now have to do the maths of how they can overturn the deficit away from Rufaro. Lengthens assistant coach Paul “Popo” Chimalizeni admitted that it was now a tall order for them to overturn the deficit.

“It’s now a tall order. We complicated matters for ourselves in the first leg at home. We conceded silly goals at home but in football anything can happen. We are going there with the aim of managing those four goals. We have told the players to score as many goals as they can. I still believe we can shock them in their own backyard,” said Chimalizeni. Strikers Mohammed Banka, Mucha Mugosi and substitute Mohammed Khunzo scored a goal each in the first leg in Harare But Lengthens will welcome back defence stalwart Dumiso Khanye who missed the first leg as he was serving a one match suspension.
