According the Deputy Organising Secretary, Morgan Komichi, the MDC president is set to go to the people and hear their aspirations.
“We need to articulate our key issues that we want in the constitution that must be people-driven. We do not want the people to be misled by Zanu (PF) so we want them to have a clear understanding of our position in view of the elections. We want to be in constant touch with the people and not to abandon them like Zanu (PF) has done, he said.
Meanwhile, violence is on the rise since the announcement by the two major principals in the Inclusive Government that the country is headed for elections sooner rather than later.
A16-year-old girl, Moreblessing Lore, in Chimango ward was beaten by a group of Zanu (PF) thugs perfecting the skills they learnt at Kondo and Vhombodzi base camps, simply because her brother Edmore Lore is the MDC-T ward chairman.
At the camps in Kotwa 40 young men and 28 girls are undergoing military training using AK 47 rifles.
According to the MDC fact-finding team led by provincial administrator Givemore Chinopfunda, the atmosphere in Kotwa is so tense that people fled from the MDC vehicles as they were afraid to be seen openly talking to the team.
“Our people have made several reports to the police over the rise in cases of violence but nothing has been done so far because the police seem to be powerless while JOMIC has also remained toothless,” said Silas Gweshe the MDC-T Provincial Spokesperson who accompanied the team.
Zanu (PF) merchants of terror have reportedly been on the rampage in the district – a hotbed of political violence during the disputed 2008 Presidential run-off. MDC activists Stephen Zenda of Mutoko East, Eunice Chibanda of Mudzi had to flee their homes and according to the fact-finding team Zanu (PF) is using such people as examples.
“Zanu (PF) has continued to beat up people and chase people from their homes, they are saying to MDC supporters its time to join Zanu (PF) or risk the same fate as that have befallen the likes of Moreblessing who was beaten,” says the report.
A police officer, Size Gerezani, who tried to investigate the cases of violence had his livestock seized by the war veterans and has been told not to interfere in politics.
