New curriculum for Green Bombers

green_bomber_youthsHARARE - The government has disbanded the Youth Training camps throughout the country and is currently consulting with youths nationwide over a new curriculum before starting the programme shunned by many as a Zanu (PF) project.

National Training camps have churned out youth militia who are pro Zanu (PF) and are better known as green bombers who have been used by Zanu (PF) to terrorise ordinary persons.

Deputy Minister of Youth and Economic Empowerment Thamusanqa Mlangu said the cash-strapped government did not have money to bankroll the youth training programme but was in the process of consulting the youths of the country so that the previously politicised programme would become a national programme.

“We do not have a national service at the moment. At the training camps you will find only the staff. If there is a camp that still has youths then they are Zanu (PF) militia. We are currently consulting the youths in order to attract them to come for the national service. This will only come to being after the writing of a new curriculum and when the government has the money.

Article XV of the Global Political Agreement (GPA), recognises the desirability of a national youth training programme, and makes it clear that it should not be politicized.

“The National Youth Training Programme must be run in a non-partisan manner and shall not include partisan political material advancing the cause of any political party,” reads the article.
