Zimtrade look locally

BULAWAYO - The countrys trade promotion body, ZimTrade, is appealing to local companies to take part at the World Exposition scheduled for China as it presents them with an opportunity to break new ground.

World Expositions are held once in five years and this years will be held from May 1 to October 31 under the theme Better City, Better life. In a statement, the trade promotion body said Expo 2010 would widen the countrys market base of the players in the small and medium enterprise.

Expo 2010 Shanghai is a national project for all stakeholders and citizens of Zimbabwe. The business sector is expected to join hands with the Government to ensure a successful showcasing of Zimbabwe at Expo 2010, a Zimtrade representative said.

Industry and Commerce Minister Welshman Ncube appealed to the business sector to assist the Government with the requisite resources in view of the fact that no support is being received from the international financing community.

He said the tourism promotion special programme by Shanghai media group would offer Zimbabwe a positive image building and a chance of telling its own story to the international community. Expo 2010 will be a platform to market goods and products by the SMEs sector at the commercial bazaar and to share experiences in addressing challenges associated with the Expos theme, leading to the production of a blueprint, the Shanghai Declaration.

About 80 million visitors are expected to attend the Expo 2010 within a period of six months while over 240 countries will be taking part. Zimbabwe will be participating under its own national theme: Transforming Our Communities For a Better Life.

The last edition of the World Exposition was held in Aichi, Japan, in 2005, in which the country was among the participating countries.
