Mahosos position on commission temporary

There has been an outcry after it was revealed that media hangman Tafataona Mahoso has been appointed chief executive officer of the secretariat of the new Zimbabwe Media Commission. But Godfrey Majonga, the chairman of the ZMC, has said Mahosos position is temporary.

Majonga last week told SW Radio Africa: I dont think it is correct to say he has returned to head the ZMC secretariat. What has happened is that the ZMC is going to meet and look at what structure they require for the process that they are going to embark on and it is only after that, when they have drawn up that structure, that we will be able to place people.

As of now we are using a structure that has been there because it has been very difficult to work in a vacuum and it has taken long to set up.

He said since their appointment early this year, the Commission still doesnt have enough funding and it has been difficult to operate. And that is why we have been able to move as fast as we are doing today because we are using existing structures.

The ZMC chairman said his Commission will be meeting in the next few weeks to draw up the structure they want.

In October last year Dr Mahoso was controversially appointed by Zanu (PF) hardliner and government Information Minister Webster Shamu as chairman of the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ).

But Prime Minister Tsvangirai declared the appointment null and void because neither Shamu nor President Robert Mugabe had consulted the PM before giving Mahoso the BAZ job.
