Svosve villagers say MP neglecting them

HWEDZA- Svosve villagers have complained that their Zanu (PF) representative, Tracy Mutinhiri, is neglecting them because she is not originally from the area.

They said they hardly see the MP who hails from Chihota and has not done much to develop the area.

Svosve area is among the least developed rural areas in the country. Roads are impassable, schools are neglected and there are no self-help projects to empower poor villagers. Public transport such as buses, have since abandoned the area due to the poor state of roads.

As Svosve community, our member of parliament has nothing to justify her presence in parliament. This time around, we are advocating for parliamentary candidature of one of the locals who have interest of his home area at heart, said Aaron Masona of Mupazvirihwo village.

The late Chief Svosve (Enock Zenda) was popular among his people as he wished for the constituency to be represented in parliament by a descendent of the area. He expressed openly that he preferred a war veteran, one Ganda, to be Member of Parliament for the area,” said another villager.

The villager said this resulted in the two being allegedly assassinated. Chief Enock Svosve died from food poisoning, while Ganda was murdered by suspected political rivals at his farm along Igava road. The people who are believed to have murdered him were driving behind a car he was traveling in from Marondera. His body could not be located for two days, only to be discovered later along the Igava road.

Another of Chief Svosve’s choice of candidate, a war veteran from the area, Wilfred Marimo, later contested for the senatorial seat as an independent and lost to Sydney Sekeramai of Zanu (PF).

Wishes of the people to be represented by a local in public offices, in the interest of development, are being frustrated by the current Zanu (PF) chief.

“He is unpopular with villagers as he oppresses divergent pro-democracy and developmental voices. In the run up to June 27, 2008, presidential elections, he stripped off headmanship from suspected MDC supporters, and replaced them with Zanu (PF) loyalists, said another source.
