A glimpse of the gold

The Tour began its much-anticipated ride through South Africa in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, with an impressive turnout of enthusiastic locals. From there to the picturesque V&A Waterfront; from the historic winelands of Paarl to the warm Durban beachfront; from windy Nelson Mandela Bay to the South African icons hometown in Mthatha South Africa made be a land of contrast but the corresponding feeling among its residents has been sheer pleasure at seeing the revered FIFA World Cup Trophy for the first time.

Those included prestigious onlookers such as Helen Zille, the Premier of the Western Cape, and Nelson Mandela’s eldest grandson Mandla Mandela and his brother Nkosi Zwelivelile. Dancers and other entertainers thrilled the animated crowds from the outset, while everyone waved their flags to the beat of Knaans hit song Wavin Flag, Coca-Colas official anthem for South Africa 2010.

Each location brought its own local element of FIFA World Cup enthusiasm, with South African team Santos joining the party in Khayelitsha. From the entertainment area everyone entered the 3D theatre to experience Coca-Colas breathtaking eight-minute 3D football fantasy movie, which enhanced the suspense of what was to come next: the viewing of the hallowed Trophy, which left fans enthralled.
