MDC-99 leadership arrested

job_sikhalaHARARE - President of the recently launched MDC-99, Job Sikala (pictured) and National Spokesperson, Aaron Muzungu, were arrested this afternoon by police and taken to Matapi Police Station in Mbare for questioning.

The two have been transfered to Waterfalls Police station for further questioning and posible detention. “We have been arrested for what the police said is convening of a party function to elect members of the Harare executive, without clearance from Police Law and Order Section. As i speak, we are being transported to Waterfalls Police Station for investigations. I do not know what awaits us at the police station,” said Muzungu over cell phone.

A source at Matapi police station, said the two are likely to be charged under the draconian POSA act, which forbids more than three people to meet without police clearance.

MDC-99 has vowed to fight draconian laws to the end. “MDC-99 convened a function yesterday, MAY 20, at Acadia Hall and elected its Harare Executive without police clearance.
