Gwanda Town Mayor Lionel De Necker said the municipality had scheduled a meeting with JOMIC members last week to discuss the case of assault.
He said since the assault, officials were now afraid of coming to work as they felt that the same scenario would be repeated.
Director of housing Sipho Mdlongwa was recently assaulted over an alleged 400 vacant residential stands, by a group of youths who stormed council offices.
Contacted for comment Jomic Communications Manager Jorum Nyathi confirmed the failed meeting but said the committee would reschedule it.
