The Warriors stand in captain also led the Zimbabweans to glory when they beat neighbours Zambia 3-1 at Rufaro last November to lift the regional Cosafa Senior Challenge Cup.
This year the CAPS United man led the Warriors in another dance with a deserved goal in the second half in which he converted to a penalty before another CAPS United man, Tafadzwa Rusike, scored the second to dump Seychelles from the tournament.
This was Mwanjali’s last match for the Warriors in this campaign as he will no longer be eligible to play in the CHAN tournament after securing a lucrative contract with South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns.
“I am thrilled to have led the team to the CHAN finals again next year. We showed character and commitment and we deserved to be there in Sudan,” Mwanjali told The Zimbabwean this week. “It will be, however, disappointing to be out of this tournament because I am leaving soon for South Africa but I hope whoever takes over the arm band will lead the team to glory.
Mwanjali took over the arm band from Highlanders defender Gilbert Banda who led the team to their maiden appearance at the inaugural tournament in Ivory Coast last year. Banda had been injured for the better part of last season and only bounced back this season, but could not reclaim the arm band from Mwanjali.
