Zanu youths stab MDC activist

An MDC activist from Gokwe is fighting for his life in hospital after he was attacked and stabbed by two Zanu (PF) youths last week.


The Zanu (PF) activist attacked Tonderai Ground, who is member of Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirais MDC party, at Gokwe rural business center apparently revenge for an incident that happened two years ago.

The Zanu (PF) pair, Siyaseni Chatemera and Tawanda Kukama, accused Ground of causing their arrest in 2008 for committing political violence. The two were arrested in 2008 after they assaulted Ground.

According to the MDC, Gokwe police have since launched a manhunt for the two youths.

The MDC also reported last Wednesday that one of the partys supporters in Odzi, Mutare North constituency, has been evicted from Shemara Farm by a self-styled war veteran, Lameck Kutsava.

Bond Godzi and his family were apparently evicted because he was too vocal during a constitutional outreach meeting held at Odzi Country Club the previous week.

At the same time in Mwenezi, Masvingo province, the MDC said Chief Chitanga has destroyed a 400-hectare winter maize crop at Makume Ranch accusing the owners of being MDC supporters.

The crop was destroyed after Chief Chitanga, who is also a senator, drove cattle into the fields, claiming that the 49 owners of the maize crop were MDC supporters.

The chiefs actions have left the local community in shock as the maize crop, which was reaching maturity stage was boosting the countrys food security. The chief was assisted by his aides and police special constabularies in destroying the maize crop, the MDC said.
