Caps United starts battle it out

According to the 2010/11 league fixtures officially released by the PSL last week, Sundowns, with four Zimbabwean players in their books, three of them formerly with Makepekepe, will be home to Oscar Machapas new paymasters – The Dube Birds, on August 27.

Sundowns, usually under the captaincy of Zimbabwe Warriors defensive midfielder, Esrom Nyandoro, have three former Caps stars in utility player Method Mwanjali, defensive link, Lionel Mtizwa and lethal striker, Nyasha Mushekwi, in their books.

Besides Nyandoro, already a trusted regular around whom the Sundowns team is usually built, the other four are newcomers who will be seeking to impress their new paymasters and will be expected to give it their best should they be given a run in that game.

On the same day, other Warriors players defender Thomas Sweswe and Zhaimu Jambo and youthful striker Knowledge Musona will be in action for Kaizer Chiefs, who host Durban-based Golden Arrows at the Rand Stadium, while defender Zvenyika Makoneses Orlando Pirates will begin their title chase with a clash away to Cape town-based newcomers Vasco da Gama the following day.

The Sundowns quartets first real test will come on September 18, when they clash with three-time champions SuperSport United in the Tshwane Derby.

However, the season will officially kick-off with the Telkom Charity Cup, slated for Soccer City on August 7, with Sundowns, Chiefs and Pirates, favoured to be among the four teams that will contest the tournament.

Pirates are the current holders, having dominated the past two editions of the competition, although they have failed to do well in other cup competitions and the League race.
