Lack of communication cost Mandaza a job

JOHANNESBURG Explosive Zimbabwean striker Terrence Mandaza this week attributed his failure to join Soweto giants, Orlando Pirates, on failure by the club to get in touch with him, dismissing rumours that the deal fell through after he had signed for Rustenburg-based Platinum Stars.

Mandaza was on the verge of signing for the Buccaneers when he left Botswana early last month, but rumours were abound here that the crack striker, who banged in 42 goals in 33 games for Botswanas Township Rollers last season, had double-dealt and signed a two-year contract with Stars in the process.

The Orlando Pirates deal fell through after the officials there did not call me back after I had played for them during an Mpumalanga Premiers Cup tournament, said the 25-year-old striker this week.

Mandaza, who has been linked with several ABSA Premiership clubs, including Maritzburg United, AmaZulu and Platinum Stars, is currently training with Dinaledi, who already have Warriors goalkeeper Tapuwa Kapini as their first choice between the goalposts.

Im aware of reports that I have signed for Platinum Stars, but they are all not true because I am just training at the moment, with the hope that I will sign for the team. At the moment I have been told that there is no coach, which means I must wait for the new coach to arrive before he can assess me and then sign me if Im in his plans.

Good news might be at the door for the striker should he impress, following rumours that Stars might sign South Africas 1996 AFCON winning captain, Neil Tovey. Tovey was fired by Durban-based Amazulu a few weeks ago and is now linked with Dinaledi.
