Wits extends Chikwaikwais loan

JOHANNESBURG - Bidvest Wits and Zimbabwe international striker, Evans Chikwaikwai, will spend a full season playing in the Mozambican topflight league after his club extended his loan to Liga Muculmana by a year.

Wits coach Roger de Sa believes that in the long run, the spell in the inferior Mozambican league will benefit the Zimbabwean, who has reportedly been able to rediscover his goal scoring form after a fruitless outing in the South African Premiership last season.

He is doing well in Mozambique so there is no need to disturb his rhythm, said De Sa. He is young and by loaning him to a team playing in another league outside the country, we hope that he will get the experience needed to perform well under various conditions.

As a club, he is still very much in our plans because if we qualify for continental competitions, we will know that we have a player who is able to adapt to conditions in Zimbabwe, South Africa and Mozambique, said De Sa.

In 2008, Chikwaikwai, who was still playing for Njube Sundowns, set the Zimbabwean Premiership alight, banging in 23 goals and emerging as the top marksman. The achievement saw him winning the prestigious 2008 Zimbabwe Soccer Star of the Year Award in a development that saw him attracting the interest of football scouts from South Africa.

His move to Bidvest Wits just before the 2009 season, however, saw him failing to realize his full potential as he struggled to find the goals on the numerous games he played for the club.

Reports from Mozambique say that the Zimbabwean striker has regained his form after being given more game time at Liga Muculmana, where he is now being regarded as one of the key players at the outfit.
